1.  PDT says he plans to withdraw from another major arms treaty. NPR's XX reports. The agreement allowed Russia and the US to conduct surveillance flights over their respective territories.

For nearly two decades, the "Open Skies" treaty allowed the US, Russia and 32 other nations to fly unarmed planes over each other's territories in order to monitor military activities and buildups. It was designed to create trust. The Trump adm now says it is withdrawing bcs Russia has denied some flights in recent years. Alix Bell of the Center for Arms Control and none-proliferation says withdrawing is a mistake.

"There's certainly been problem with the treaty, but they are not actually issues that the fisi______ object and purpose of the treaty."

Without "open skies", arms control experts worry the US will have even less of an idea of what the Russian military is up to.


2.  House speaker Nancy Pelosi continues her push for mail and voting to better protect Americans from the cv. Speaking on the 101 anniversary of the Houses passage of the 19th amendment, Pelosi said ppl should not have to choose between their right to vote and preserving their health.

"Sadly as we observe this milestone, voting is under assault. It is a both from systemic national nationwide campaign of voter suppression and from the cv."

Pelosi also continued her push for the House Democrats' latest cv relief bill, th 3 trillion dollar package would include additional funding for state and local governments and for the first time, hazard pay for essential workers.


3.  The US Army Corps of Engineers is being dispatched to Michigan in the wake of catastrophic flooding.
XX of member station WCMU reports. Communities are beginning to survey the damage from historic floods that hit the central part of the state this week.

Sanford residents return to their homes and businesses for the first time today after a dam breach upriver flooded much of the town. The main street of the small village is covered in mud and downed electrical lines. RR is the owner of Sanford Pizza. He and his wife are sorting through what's left of their place.

"For the last 7 years, that's been my life, and now it's blown away all to back, like this building, everything we owned."

President T has granted Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's request for Fema aid, and residents are hoping they'll get assistance.



4.  Nearly 39 million Americans have applied for unemployment benefits since the cvo began. The labor department says more than 2.4 million ppl filed claims last week.


5.  Emergency management officials in Florida say more than 1700 residents will have to be retested for the cv. Officials say their state administered tests were damaged on their way to the lab for analysis. Individuals will be given priority for retesting at the site they originally visited.


6.   A powerful cyclone has made landfall near the border of eastern India and Bangladesh. NPR's XX reports. Millions of ppl have been evacuated to higher ground.

Aid worker XX on India's east coast says fishermen's homes have been destroyed.

"These houses are most likely made of bamboos or some wood. If it rains and everything, the wind will blow the roof away and they'll all collap."

Two million ppl were evacuated from Bangladesh overnight. For many, it's the first time out of their homes since the cv lockdown was imposed nearly two months ago. Now they are trying to social distance inside storm shelters. There are fears that storm surge could break levees and poisoned the clean drinking water supply.


7.  Government forecasters are predicting an above normal Atlantic hurricane season. Meteorologists say they expect up to 19 named storms, as many as 10 could develop into hurricanes or major hurricanes. The national oceanic and atmospheric administration says the combination of several climate factors is driving the strong likelihood for above normal activity this year.
