7.  Author JK Rowling's new book for children is set to publish in November, but starting today, she's putting installments online for free for kids stuck at home.

Rowling wrote the Ickabog in between the Harry Potter books, reading chunks of it to her two younger children in the evenings. But it sat in a box in her attic for years. The Ickabog takes place in a standalone fantasy world in a magically abundant land called Cornucopia ruled by a fair haired and fairly dumb king called for the fearless, a title he gave himself. On her website, Rolling describes the book as "a story about truth and the abuse of power". But adds that it isn't related to any current events because she got the idea more than a decade ago. Rolling is also asking young readers to contribute illustrations for each chapter as part of a contest. Winning drawings will be included in the book when it's published in November.

Once upon a time, there was a tiny country called Cornucopia, which had been ruled for centuries by a long line of fair-haired kings. The king at the time of which I write was called King Fred the Fearless. He’d announced the ‘Fearless’ bit himself, on the morning of his coronation, partly because it sounded nice with ‘Fred’, but also because he’d once managed to catch and kill a wasp all by himself, if you didn’t count five footmen and the boot boy.
