In Georgia Atlanta's police chief is resigning after one of her officer shot and killed a man who resisted arrest after being found asleep in his car at a fastfood restaurant. It happend at Wendy's late last night. Officer say when 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks failed to sobriety test, he took an officer's taser and ran. Vic Reynolds, head of Georgia's bureau of investigation says new video shows that it appears Brooks pointed the taser at the officer then the officer shot him.

We have not digitally enhance that video yet. We will, We will be in the process doing then, so we can enhance it in city. But that does what it appears, what appears to be just from looking at the video.

Atlanta's mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she doesn't think Brooks shooting was justified. Reynolds says they hope to have that video released to the public sometime today.

New York's governor Andrew Cuomo says his state is in normally in the fight against the coranovirus. New cases continue to decline there as other states struggle with increases in new infections. From member station WSHU, Desiree D'Iorio has more.

Cuomo says local governments must closely monitor their new cases as too more regions of New York prepare to enter the third phase of reopening this week. Cuomo says his state once the epicenter of the pandemic continues to see a downward trend in hospitalizations, deaths and infection rate. But he warns that New York does not exist a vacuum.

And the signs across the country are frightening. The covid virus is increasing in just about half the states.

Some states that reopened before New York including Texas and North Carolina are now reporting some of their highest case numbers since the pandemic began. For NPR News, I'm Desiree D'Iorio in New York.

And Beijing is reporting a new cluster of coranovirus cases. As NPR's Coland Warex reports the outbreak has been traced to the city's largest wholesale markets.

So authorities have shut the market down for now and planned to test more than 10,000 people who work there. They've also shut several other markets and ended classes at least nine schools and temporarily halted the tourism across the district. It's what one local official called quote war time emergency mode. The source that worried is a recent speed of confirmed cases in Chinese capital after nearly two months without a single new case. This past week seeing a handful of new confirmed patients in the city and official say they are not about to take any chances. Coland Wirex NPR News.

Heat high winds and dry conditions are filling the big horn fire in the Santa Catalina Mountains in central Arizona. Fire officials ordered evacuations for part of the Oro valley in Catalina foothills. The blazes burned more than 10,000 acres and is 10% contained.

The sister of North Korean leader Kim Jeong-eun is threatening South Korea was military action after Seoul declined bilateral relations. She also bashed the country over its inability to stop activists from floating anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border. Reuters reports she's calling South Korea an enemy. Kim Yo JOng repeated an earlier threat also that Seoul will soon witness the collapse of a quote, useless inter-Korean liaison office in a border town. She says it's up to North Korea's army to carry out the next step of retaliation against the South.

Economy of Nicaragua has been hit hard not only by the coranovirus pandemic but also by the turmoil of the political crisis at the last two years. As Maria Martin reports.

According to the economic commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Nicaragua's economy will take a dive of almost 6% this year. During part to the covid-19 pandemic which the government of president Daniel Ortega continues to deny as he refuses to impose restrictions. On top of that, the economy hasn't yet recovered from the political turmoil which began in 2018 when clashes between government opponents and security forces led to over 500 deaths and 100,000 going into exile. As a result many small businesses shut their doors. The Nicaraguan chamber of restaurants for instant says some 70% of eating establishments in the country have closed down.
