1.    PDT facing backlash and falling poll number over his response to the civil unrest of recent weeks. There's formally calling for changes in policing nationwide. NPR's XX reports, Trump was flanked by police as he signing the executive order during a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden today.

The President has been under increasing pressure to take action after the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.

"Reducing crime and raising standards are not opposite goals. They are not mutually exclusive. They work together, they all work together."

The President said he met in private with families that had been affected by police shootings before signing the order that calls for raising use of fore standards and creating a database of problem officers. Trump also demonstrated his clear support of law enforcement, and criticized activists who use the slogan "defund the police", describing their efforts to rethink how police are deployed as radical attempts to dissolve police departments.


2.    The President's executive order comes at a time Senate Republicans are working to craft a measure of their own. Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer among those calling on Republicans to seek what he called "bold and broad scale change". The New York Democratic appears skeptical to President’s executive order saying it doesn’t go far enough.

"This executive order will not deliver comprehensive, meaningful change and accountability in our nation's police departments that Americans are demanding. Now is the moment for real, lasting, comprehensive change. We cannot merely makes some changes around the margin."

Schumer says any measure from Senate Republicans should take a harder line on chokeholds and another aggressive tactics. The GOP measure also don't go as far as what Democrats have proposed in terms of allowing those injured by law enforcement personnel to sue for damages.


3.    The House Judiciary Committee says it will hear from a pair of Justice Department whistleblowers about alleged improper political influence during the Trump administration. NPR's XX reports, Democrats has issued subpoenas for the testimony.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerold Nadler says the topic of the June 24th hearing is the unprecedented infusion of politics at the Justice Department. Law makers plan to hear from Aaron Zelinsky. He is the prosecutor who worked on the case of long-time Trump adviser Rager Stone. They also subpoena John Elias, a career official in the Justice Department Antitrust Division. Democrats on the House panel had been asking to hear from the Attorney-General William Barr. But Barr says his schedule has been too busy. A spokeswoman at Justice declines comment about whether the Department will try to block the testimony.

5.    Virginia Governor Ralph Northam says he'll propose making Juneteenth(美国6.19奴隶解放日 (short for “June Nineteenth”)) an official holiday in the state that was once home to the capital of the Confederacy南方联盟. June 19th, 1865, is the date the Union Army联邦军 informed people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, that enslaved people are now free. It is celebrated as the end of slavery in the US, also dubbed the “Emancipation Day”. Texas made it the state holiday in 1980.

6.    The Chinese capital Beijing is closing schools and taking other lockdown measures after authorities there confirmed more than 100 new cv cases in recent days into a wholesale food market. NPR's XX has more.

Kindergarten, elementary and high schools camps would be closed from Wednesday. Libraries, museums, galleries and parks will restrict visitors to just 30% of capacity. And the city government says anyone wishing to leave Beijing will now have to show a negative cv test taking within 7 days of their departure. The city raised its emergency response to level 2 from level 3. And the state-run Global Times newspaper reported that flights into and out of Beijing had been largely cancelled. The cluster of locally transmitted cases have been traced to the biggest wholesale market for fruit, vegetables  and meat in Beijing.


7.    One major casualty of the cvp this year has been college summer internships, often viewed as gateway for students entrance into the working world. It's estimated around half of all internships in the US were cut this year. Some companies were making their internships virtual, a measure in the current for working from home trend, much of corporate of America has been forced to embrace.
