A coronavirus outbreak at a major meat processing plant in northwestern Germany has led to some 7,000 people being told to go into quarantine. So far more than 400 workers at the plant in Gütersloh have tested positive for the disease.

He warned against attending events with large crowds, adding that he personally would not attend President Trump’s upcoming political rally in Oklahoma.

The Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández has been taken to hospital to be treated for coronavirus. The spokesman said Mr. Hernández had pneumonia and was on a drip but doing well.

The first premiere league football matches in England for more than 3 months have taken place in empty stadiums, after the season was brought to an abrupt halt by the pandemic. The reigning champions Manchester City are at home against Arsenal. Earlier Aston Villa played Sheffield United. The match ended in a goalless draw.

The brother of George Floyd has asked United Nations to set up an independent commission to investigate the death of black people at the hands of US police. Philonise Floyd told UN human rights council in Geneva that the whole world saw how his brother was tortured and killed in Minneapolis, which he said proved that black lives didn’t matter in his country.

The video conferencing platform Zoom says it has planned to offer end-to-end encryption for video calls. The company which has seen a surge in customers during lockdown has faced mounting pressure to increase security.

Japanese researchers have developed an unusual method to fertilizing pear trees by blowing pollen laden bubbles into orchards. They have created a pollen filled formula that can be fired from bubble guns attached to drains.
