A majority of the professors at Georgia Tech University are objecting to the school's plans for reopening this fall amid the cvp. Georgia Public Broadcasting's XX has more.
In a letter to the Georgia Tech Board of Regents, more than 700 staff members contend to the current reopening plan for the university "threatens the health, wellbeing and education of students, staff and faculty. The faculty would like remote learning to be to fall for most students, make campus available only for students who need access to larger housing and empower the university president to set health standards. And Alexander Edwards says the current requirement that only faculty be required to wear masks makes no sense.
"But if all of us wear masks and we are exponentially safer."
Last month, the university announced its plan to reopen in mid-August.

In California police are investigating damage to a BLM mural that was to face over the weekend. Residents obtained a permit to paint the BLM phrase outside the Contra Costa courthouse. A short time later a group came and painted over the phrase. XX lives in the area.
"I think this is an indication, um, much power whites who comes actually has. The fact that even having something on the street for one hour. They couldn't tolerate that."

In Chicago, police say more than a dozen people were killed in shootings over the holiday weekend including a 7-y-old girl at a family party and a 14-y-old boy. Dozens of others were injured. Police say four males opened fire on a large gathering in the street in Englewood just before midnight, killing the teenage boy and three others. A 7-y-old girl was shot and killed while standing on the sidewalk at her grandmother house in a 4th of July party. No arrests has been made in either shooting.

In Seattle, one of two people who were hit by a car Saturday during a protest on the closed Interstate has died. NPR's XX reports, the driver is in custody and is facing felony charges.
Summer Tyler, aged 24, die late Saturday at Harborview Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Earlier Tyler was protesting on Interstate-5 when video show a white Jaguar白色捷豹 maneuvering around parked vehicles. The car speeds toward the group, hitting two people and sending them flying then taking off. A 32-y-old have been live streaming the protests under the name "Black Femme March Takes I-5" before being hit and remained hospitalized in serious condition. The driver was arrested shortly afterward. Police say they don't know if it was targeted attack. But Washington State Patrol announced protesters who have been marching on freeway for weeks will now be arrested if found there.

Two of the national largest cities are slashing funding for the arts in order to address enormous budget shortfalls because of the pandemic lockdowns. NPR's XX reports, NYC and Philadelphia are cutting way back on funding for arts and cultural offices in the next fiscal year.
The news from Philadelphia was devastating to the city's art organizations. Philadelphia cut 40% of its art funding for the next year going forward. It can flatly eliminated its arts office. That makes Philadelphia the only big city in the US without one. Meanwhile NY cut funding to its department of cultural affairs by 11%. One of the program's hardest-hit brings arts education to children and the public schools. Other cities reeling from the public health crisis and economic fall down face similar decisions. Arts advocates say there's want___ point to Europe where country such as Italy responded to the pandemic in part by pumping millions of Euros and keeping the arts economy in afloat.

As the number of Covid-19 cases surge in Iran, authorities have now made wearing a mask mandatory. That order started today but many people out and about are seemingly ignoring it. Iran was one of the first countries hit by the virus. The new rules mark a turning point for the country which has struggled to balance provincial lockdowns with fears of a stalling economy that's already struggling under US sanctions.
