The United Nations says the number of zoonotic diseases, those that jump from animals to humans, is on the rise and will continue to increase without concerted action to protect wildlife and preserve the environment. The report says the trend is driven by our increase demand for animal protein, unsustainable agricultural practices and climate change.
A new World Health Organization survey has found that 73 countries are at risk of running out of medicines needed to treat people who are HIV positive because of the coronavirus pandemic. The UN agency said about 1/3 of all people reliant on the anti-retroviral drugs lived in countries now experiencing supply shortages.
