The Prime Minister of Mali has said his government is open to dialogue with opposition forces, in what appears to be an effort to stop the country’s worst civil unrest in years. An opposition movement wants President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta to step down, over the country’s worsening security and economic challenges and disputed elections.
Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev has called for the resignation of the center-right government of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, which he likens to a mafia. For a third evening in a row, supporters of the president have turned out to protest in the capital Sofia.
The Republican Senator Mitt Romney has accused President Trump of unprecedented historic corruption, for deciding to spare his friend Roger Stone a prison sentence. Mr. Ronnie said Mr. Trump had reprieved Stone because he lied to a jury to protect him. Reaction of other senior Republicans has been largely muted.
One of India’s most famous Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan is in hospital in Mumbai after testing positive for coronavirus. Officials say the 77-year-old star is asymptomatic and his condition is stable.
Thousands of Israelis from across the political spectrum are protesting in central Tel Aviv against economic hardship and the government’s handling of the pandemic. The self-employed and young people complained the compensation promised by the coalition government has been slow to arrive.
The Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi has launched a new campaign against corruption, saying that the failure to tax imports is costing millions. On a visit to the border, he said the businessmen should pay customs duties, not bribes.
Police in southern India say they have arrested 2 suspects in connection with the smuggling of more than 30 kilos of gold through diplomatic channels. A man and a woman have been on the run. The gold hidden inside bathroom fittings was addressed to a consulate in the United Arab Emirates in Kerala State.
