1. President Trump was abruptly escorted out of the White House briefing room tonight after shots were fired outside the building. He returned several minutes later and told reporters that a suspect had been shot by law enforcement.
"There was a shooting outside the White House and it seems to be very well under control and I'd like to thank the secretaries/secret service特工们 for doing their always quick and very effective work."
The White House was briefly put on lockdown during the incident.
2. Early today, the President announced that he would deliver his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination at the White House or the Getty'Bird/Gettysburg葛底斯堡 battlefield in Pennsylvania. The President plans to address the convention from Florida and the North Carolina were upended in its spike in coronavirus cases.
3. Georgia is scheduled to hold primary run-off elections tomorrow. *** from Number/Member Station WABE reports on a hotly contested race in the state's 14th congressional district.
While margins between Republicans and Democrats in Georgia have narrowed recently, the 14th congressional district is home to decidedly conservative voters. Both GOP hopefuls in run-off back the President, the Second Amendment and opposed abortion. But Marjorie Taylor Greene has stood out for controversial statements supporting the debunked ____/QAnon conspiracy theory and for saying "two new Muslim members of Congress amounted to /a, quote, "Islamic invasion of the government". Several Republicans distance themselves from her after the statements and many of the state-elected officials are supporting her run-off opponent John K.

4. The Prime Minister of Lebanon has announced his resignation. Hassan Diab is stepping down less than a week after a massive explosion killed more than 150 people in Beirut. *** reports.
Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced his resignation Monday evening in a televised speech, citing "chronic corruption at the root of the explosion in the Beirut's port". President *** has asked Diab's government to stay in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed. The collapse of Diab's short-lived government which lasted less than a year came following mass outrage at the explosion. But this resignation is unlikely to appease Lebanese public which blames the explosion on entrenched political corruption and negligence. Following the resignation, protestors demonstrated for a third straight day, clashing with security forces. For NPR NEWS, I'm *** in Beirut.
5. China says it will sanction 11 Americans in retaliation for a US sanction imposed last week over Hong Kong. They include Senators, *** and ***. Last week, the US sanctioned Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam and ten other Chinese officials.

7. The number of people flying on commercial airlines in the US is taking up again but it's still far below last year's levels, as NPR's David Shepard reports some airlines are planning for very weak demand this fall.
More than 830,000 people went through TSA screening at security checkpoint in the nation's airports Sunday. That's the most since way back on March 17th. But it's still 17% fewer people than the 2,500,000 counted on the same Sunday last August. Newly released government figures show that the nation's airlines flew 16.3 million passengers in the entire month of June. That's down 80% from last year. But it's almost double the number of people who flew in May. Airlines of business picked up earlier this summer after pandemic-induced _________ /historic lows grows/ in April. But now they are cutting flights in September as demand remains weak. David Shepard, NPR NEWS.
8. Authorities in Baltimore are investigating a natural gas explosion that leveled several road/row houses. Officials say the blast left one person dead and several others hospitalized with serious injuries. The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown. City officials say they plan to inspect the gas remains in service piping leading to properties and the gas meters in the coming days. They say customer-owned appliances will also be investigated.
9. Stars/stocks closed the mix on Wall Street today. The Dow was up 357 points, closing at 27,791. The Nasdaq down 42 points. The SNP 500 at/up 9.
