1. Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has chosen the California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. NPR's XXX reports Harris would be the first women of color to be nominated by a major party for vice president.
We have never had a black woman in the number one or number two spot, right? There he never been a black woman as a running mate, and Joe Biden had faced a lot of pressure from a number of leading African-American activists to make sure that he put a black person on the ticket, in part, you know, because of some of the race justice issues we seen in the country, but also because there was a sense that black women have consistently been some of the most loyal voters in the Democratic party and that this was a, this was due to them.
2. In a statement tonight former President Barack Obama said Biden nailed the decision. Obama said by choosing Harris as America's next vice president, Biden underscored his own judgment and character. He also said Harris has spent her career defending the constitution and fighting for people who need a fair shake. Biden and Harris are expected to appear together tomorrow in Wilmington, Delaware.
3. President Trump is weighing in on Biden's highly anticipated announcement. Speaking at the WH tonight Trump said he was a little surprised by the decision and took aim at Harris' past treatment of the former Vice President.
"She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden. And, it's hard to pick somebody that was that disrespectful when she said things during the debates, during the Democratic primary debates. That was horrible."
Trump also blasted Harris' questioning of Brett Kavanaugh for a seat on the Supreme Court, calling it the "meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful of anybody in the US Senate".
4. The outlook for the upcoming college football season took another hit today. NPR's XX reports, two more key conferences, the Big Ten and Pac-12 announced their teams won't take the field amid a resurgence of cv cases in the US.
The Big Ten and Pac-12, the members of the top tear_____ so called "Power Five" Leagues. Some of their members include Michigan, Ohio State, Pen State and the University of Southern California. Conferences leaders say health concerns about the cv was too high to play football or any of their sports this fall. The Big 12, Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conferences are still planning to play at least for now. But the withdraw throws into turmoil a season that's already 10 years_______ of best, smaller conferences and schools have already announced they won't play either this fall, left undecided is whether student athletes will get another year of eligibility.

6. Turkey is blaming the Greek Coast Guard for firing at a small boat in the Aegean Sea injuring 3 people onboard. XX reports, Greek officials say the Coast Guard only fired warning shots.
The Turkish Coast Guard claims the Greeks fired on the boat as it tried to reach the Greek Island of Rhodes. Two Turkish nationals in the S____ aboard were all injured, one of them seriously according to the Turkish Coast Guard. The Greek Coast Guard says the boat was carrying migrants and that they'd fired rubber bullets as a warning. Turkey and Greece are already in a tense standoff over hydrocarbon exploration in the
Aegean Sea. Ankara is issuing gas exploration licenses in the areas that Athens say belong to Greece. Greece wants an emergency meeting of European Union foreign ministers to address the tension.
7. Russia announced today that it approved a vaccine for the cv. The country has become the first in the world to green light a vaccine without conducting late stage clinical trials. Doctor XX, an infectious disease expert at Johns-Hopkins University, warns of the dangers of rolling out a vaccine too quickly.
"How well it will works? what the safety profile is? what's the ____ regiment? We want these all to be out and to be open, so that we have some idea of what's being done in Russia."
The Russian government has released no scientific data on its testing. Russia is one of many countries rushing to produce a vaccine for the cv which has now infected more than 20 million ppl worldwide. |
