1. President Trump now says he won't veto funding for the post office hours after saying he would, because he wants to make it harder to expand voting by mail. At his regular press briefing today, Trump said Democrats want 3.5 billion dollars as part of a cv relief package, for something he says, would be fraudulent outside___ in evidence.
"What the reasons the post office means that much money as that all these millions of ballots coming in from nowhere. And nobody knows from where and where they are going."
Eight States are mailing ballots to all active voters this fall, including six that have been doing so for years.

2. Vice President Mike Pence is making several campaign stops in Iowa today. He's arriving just days after a severe weather event know as the derecho德雷克风暴, caused widespread damage to Iowa, homes, businesses and crop land. Iowa public radio's XX has more.
Tens of thousands of Iowans were still without power when Pence arrived. And some school districts have even delayed their start dates because of the destruction. The Vice President met privately with a small group of farmers whose crops were hit by the storm before addressing a crowd indoors.
"I assured them that they and all of those who have been impacted by this derecho are on the hearts, in the prayers of millions of Americans."
Pence promises that Trump adm would work with Iowa leaders to bring the state back. He spoke on the Iowa State Fair grounds, and on what was supposed to be the first day of the fair. Officials cancelled that this year because of the pandemic.

3. Georgia's Govr says he's dropping a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta over mask wearing. Brian Kemp had sued Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the city council last month after they issued orders requiring mask to be worn in public along with other restriction aimed at slowing the spread of the cv. Kemp had argued the local leader's kind of post-measures that don't comply with his orders, but he says, drop the suit because negotiations between him and Mayor Bottoms ordered by a judge broke down.

4. The DOJ is accusing Yale of discriminating against white and Asian Americans in its admission's process. As NPR's XX reports, the Department says the school is violating Title Six of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The Justice Department says it reaches a conclusion after a two-year investigation in response to a complaint by Asian American groups. In a 4-paged letter, the Department says that it found that race is determinative factor in hundreds of admission decisions each year in Yale. It says the likelihood of admission for Asian American and white applicants is significantly lower than for African American and Hispanic applicants with similar academic credentials. Yale says it has a compelling interest in diversity. The Justice Department says the school goes on that front are too ____ in a m____. The Department demands Yale not use race or national origin in the upcoming admission cycle and says it could file a lawsuit if the school fails to comply.

5. A fast moving wild fire in the mountains in north of Los Angeles has forced evacuations and has destroyed at least 3 structures. As XX from member station KPCC reports, in less than a day fires have grown to more than 10,000 acres and is 0% contained.
It was quickly clear that residents were facing a dangerous wild fire when a column of smoke rose high enough to be seen from several different counties. The fire behavior has been extreme, moving in a way now expected into the fall___ when strong winds roll through the area. Fire fighters said several reasons for the intensity of the blaze. Steep terrain with canyons for the fire to shoot out, high temperatures and lots of dried out brushing trees. Some woods___ haven't burned since the 1960s. Fire fighters have gotten a bit of repray___ with a cooler weather over night and a sprinkling of rain. But with the temperature headed for the mid-nineties, there's a chance that intense fire behavior could pick back up.

6. US employees of Tik Tok plan to sue the Trump adm over the President’s executive order that could ban the video media app in the US. This follows a separate pending lawsuit from the company that owns the app. Last week Trump ordered big bans on dealing with the owners of Tik Tok and WECHAT saying they are a threat to national security and the US economy. Tik Tok help fund NPR produced videos for plenty of money that appear on the social media platform.
