President trump is nominating Amy Coney Barret to US supreme court to fill the vacancy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump’s choice sets up a brutal confirmation battle before the 2020 election. NPR sandy swind has more:

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg won’t be buried until Tuesday, but in the white house Rose garden, president Trump announced his nominee to fill her seat, Amy Coney Barret. Barret said Ginsburg smashed the glass ceilings (打破职场天花板) and that she admired the late justice’s close relationship with conservative justice Antonin Scalia, who was Barret’s mentor.

“his judicial Philosophy is mine too. A judge must apply the law as written, judges are not policy makers, they must be in resolute in setting aside any politic views they might hold.”

At 48, she would be the youngest justice on court and solidify the conservative majority.

The mayor of the Rochester, NY has named the first woman to lead that city’s police department. For the member station WXXI Randy Gorman reports, the latest development in turmoil? time for the city and its policy development. Mayor Lovely Warren said Cynthia, who retired from police department in 2009, will take over as insurance chief. The previous chief was fired after a policy body camp video was released earlier this month, an evidence taped in march showing a policy hitting Daniel to the ground, when he responded to mental health call. Prude suffocated and die a week later.

Cynthia, who is an African American, previously worked on a team that investigated the situations involving the deaths of people who were in the custody.  Warren pointed to that experience.

“Experience that would be beneficial to establish the needed changes within NRPD.”

There are multiple investigations going on at the both state and federal level.

While fire contains are increasing across Oregon, outside Eugene, the holiday farm fire hasn’t spread past 170,000 acres per day and it is now almost half contained. From our member station KOCC, XX has more.

An Oregon forestry official said, cause of the use of recent heavy rains and cooler weather today help contain lines and areas that they weren’t able to help in past weeks. One new bit of technology to help with the operation are the drones. XX, the firefighter, who used his drones to do infra imaging in the holiday farm fire, he is informed through the conditions are too dangerous for regular aircrafts to locate the fires through dense smoke.

“I think it is potentially gonna help when the fire is fully contained and they have the needs to make sure these spot fires do not pass their lines.”

Warmer and windier weather next week will increase the chances of fan flames or the state of dumbers. Local burn band remained unaffected.

At the Kennedy center in Washington DC, 40 people will be the audiences tonight for a concert that features XX and XX. That hall normally seats 2000. As Elizabeth reports, it is one of the several measures being implemented for century-first in-person concert since March.

“ Kennedy center is taking all kinda of safety precautions.  The audiences will enter the upper house through wild loading doors and sit in physically distance pairs during the concert. Both A and B have performed many times in Kennedy center. A is one of the center’s artistic advisors.


Tonight’s performance is the first of a limited series of in-person concerts, that would also be live-streamed. The Kennedy center received 25 million dollar from federal government relief package in March, but still might drafted personnel cut.
