The security forces in Belarus fired stone grenade at demonstrators in the capital Minsk, who were calling for the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko. There have been reports that riot police have also fired rubber bullets. One human rights group says more than150 people have been detained.
Spain's prime minister Pedro Sánchez has justified the imposition of a new state of emergency, saying the coronavirus pandemic was the worst health crisis his country has ever faced in a century. He's urged people to stay home as much as possible, and a nighttime curfew is now in force.
France has called on countries in the Middle East to prevent shops and businesses from boycotting its goods. France products have been removed from some shops in Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar. The boycott is in protest of president Macron's defense of the right to show cartoons of the prophet Mohammed.
Australia has expressed its serious concern with Qatar over an incident of Doha airport earlier this month. A number of women due to fly to Sydney were reportedly examined for signs of having recently given birth. It came after a premature baby was found abandoned in an airport bathroom.
The U.S vice president Mike Pence is continuing to campaign for next week's election, despite many members of his staff becoming infected by coronavirus. The Democratic presidential campaign has questioned the labeling of Mr.Pence as an essential worker to justify his travel.
Polls have closed in Lithuania's second round parliamentary elections, which the center right opposition is expected to win. Ingrida Simonyte have said she was confident her party and its two partners to form a government.
And the British driver Lewis Hamilton has broken the record for most formula one race wings, after his 92nd victory at Portuguese Grand Prix. The success took him beyond the mark set by the German Michael Schumacher.
