1. The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked New York governor Andrew Cuomo's mandate the/*that* places are limited of/*on the* number of people who can attend religious services in areas deemed to be coronavirus hot spots. As NPR's Nina Totenberg reports, and/*the* deciding votes were casted by new Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
In a/*an unsigned* opinion, the court majority said that because Cuomo's order did not apply the same rule to essential services ranging from supermarkets to *garages* and liquor stores, the order are meant to be discrimination against religion. Even in the pandemic, the constitution cannot be put away and forgotten, the majority said. They/*The* decided/*dissenters* to/ counter/*counted* that in the mist of a deadly pandemic the court should stay its head/*hand* when rules are based on science showing that transmission is far higher when people are in close contact for a/ long/*prolonging periods of time, particularly indoors.

2. Health officials are expressing concern that Americans seem/ to/ *who would* ignore the request to stay at home during the thanks-giving holiday may cause a jump in coronavirus cases. Millions of people are flying and driving this holiday to be with family. In Houston today, Democratic congressman Shiela Jackson Lee cautioned everyone to remain vigilant.
A lot of people think - wow the vaccine is coming, I can throw all of my good behavior, *just throw it* away. You can't! You will not get your vaccine till wait into 2021. You've got to continue to wear a mask, continue to socially distanced.
Lee was speaking in a thanks-giving food distribution of that.
2. With a handful of raises/*races* yet to be called 尽管还有几个议会选举没出结果, it's clear that/ there will be a record number of women in the next congress, at least 141, beating the previous record by 14. But as NPR's *** reports, that may/might not change how effective the congress is, contrarily, the/to popular pre-conception.
While an overwhelming majority of those women law-makers will be Democrats. The latest increase was driven by Republicans, who will also have a record number of women on Capitol Hill. One comment/common stereotype is that women law-makers will reach across the *aisle* more often女议员更易跨党派. But that doesn't appear to be true. One 2018 study for example has/ showed that women law-makers are no more bi-partisan than men, in their voting behavior or in co-sponsoring bills. Women like men have been/ sentenced/incentives动因 to be partisan. There is, however, some evidence said that women law-makers' bills stay alive in congress longer, and that women are more likely to introduce males/bills in a few areas including education and civil rights.
3. France has begun to collect the special tax again on big American tech companies including Facebook and Amazon. The move followed resistance by the Trump administration to an international deal on how to tax online companies. France has suspended the tax earlier this year. The tax thought/brought about 400 million EUROs into the French budget last year.
4. Wall Street is closed today for the thanks-giving holiday. Markets will open tomorrow for half day trading. And Asia, investors are cautious. Japan Nikkei Index gained 0.9%. This is NPR.
3. Three space crafts from Earth are closing on Mars, as NPR's science correspondent Jill P*** reports, 2 carrier-rovers, and one of the rovers has a helicopter. The rover with the helicopter belongs to NASA. The main mission of the rover Perseverance is to collect sample of Martian rocks that will be returned to Earth in a subsequent mission. But it will also test the feasibility of using a helicopter drone in the thin Martian atmosphere. The other rover belongs to China. It will detect/detach from an orbiter and *descend* to Martian surface a few month after it arrives. Once on the ground it will explore the geology on Mars. The 3rd mission is an orbiter only. It will make measurements of the Martian atmosphere. That mission is run by the United Arab Emirates阿联酋. All 3 missions will arrive at the red planet next February.
4. While Julian Assange is in a British prison cell, the mother of his children is appealing to President Trump for a pardon. Assange is waiting for a decision on whether he will be extradited to the US to face charges of espionage. The Judge overseeing his case says she will deliver her decision on Jan 4th, but still on more treated to Trump appealing to him to pardon Wikileaks founders.
