President-elect Joe Biden has laid out his first 100days’agenda, when it comes to tackling the corona virus, as NPR’s Theresa Kidd explains he says distributing and administering the vaccine will be one of the hardest operational challenges in American history.

Biden said he consulted with Dr. Anthony Fauci in developing his goals for the first 100days. He wants all Americans to wear masks in public for that whole period. He is pledging to get 100million vaccine doses into people’s arms. And he plans to make reopening schools a national priority. The president-elect says he will urge congress to direct the resources needed to make that happen.
“Masking, vaccinations, opening schools. These are the three key goals for my first 100 days.” Biden said it will take longer than anyone wants to get vaccines administered in every corner of the country. And the ability to get the doses out quickly and effectively depends on what happens now, before he takes office. Theresa Kidd, NPR news.

At the white house today, president Donald Trump celebrated the progress made towards rolling out a corona virus vaccine, Trump saying he expects approvals of vaccines that’s already being used on emergency bases in UK to happen quickly. He also said if need be the administration could invoke his powers to speed up distribution.

“We have worked very well with the companies, but for any reason we have any problems we will be instituting the Defense Production Act and we will make sure that we don't have any problems for very long we’ve instituted it before.”
Biden officials were not invited to today’s event, nor representatives from the drug companies involved in the vaccines.

President-elect Biden has tapped retired General Lloyd. Austin to be the next Defense Secretary . As vp(vice president) Biden worked with him on the Iraq war. NPR’s Scott Detrow reports Austin is technically ineligible for the cabinet job because he only recently left active duty, but Biden’s asking congress to make an exception.

Austin is retired 4 star General who once led US central command, none of that is controversial, what is, the fact that Austin has only been retired from active duty for 4 years. A law underscoring civilian control of the military requires Defense Secretaries to have been out of the army services for at least 7 years. In 2017 congress passed a waiver allowing James Mattis to serve despite not meeting that qualification. Back then many democrats expressed skepticism about the idea. Jack Reed the top democrat on the arm services committee said at the time he would never vote for a waiver again, but now that Biden has picked Austin Reed had shifted his tone saying Austin is quote “very qualified, and should be given a chance to explain himself in hearings.” Scott Detrow NPR news, Washington.

Gains in tech sector stocks continued to help power the market higher today, the Dows up 104 points, the NASDAQ grows 62 points, the S&P 500 gained 10 points.

The French government says it may backtrack on promises to loosen some nationwide covid restrictions for Christmas, due to still significant number of daily infections there. NPR’s Eleanor Beardsley reports, health experts are warning of a third wave of the pandemic in January; the protective measures are relaxed too soon.

President Emmanuel Macron lifted the strictest lockdown measures on December 2th, noting that the month of confinement had brought the daily infection rate from 60 to 20,000. Macron had promised a further relaxing of measures by December 15th if the rate dropped to 5,000 a day. But the number of daily infection remained stubbornly around 10,000, health officials say the country is on the knife’s edge and must continue to be vigilant. So theaters and cinemas may stay closed and travel restrictions may remain in place. Currently the French are not allowed to travel more than 12 mile from their homes. The government may impose an early curfew including on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Eleanor Beardsley NPR news, Paris.

A deadline set under federal laws essentially locks in President-elect Biden’s victory even though President Donald Trump continues to falsely claim he won reelection. Every state but Wisconsin appears to have met the safe harbor deadline, which means Congress has to accept the electoral votes that will be cast next week and sent to the Capitol for counting January 6th. Those votes will elect Biden as the country’s next president; the safe harbor provision lets a state protects its electoral votes against challenges in congress by finishing up certification of the results and legal challenges in state court by the deadline.
