1.  The head of the Food and Drug Administration says the American public should be reassured that yesterday's emergency use authorization for Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine was based purely on science. The comment follows reports that the White House threatened to fire him if the authorization was not approved by last night. NPR's XX reports, vaccine shipments are due to start on Monday.
  And emergency use authorization means the Covid-19 vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech can be distributed to the public for the time being at least. Supplies of the vaccine will be limited. To get full protection, people need to get 2 shots of the vaccine, space 21 days apart. A large study of some 44000 people showed the vaccine was more than 90% effective in preventing Covid-19 illness. Many people in the the study experienced side effects such as pain at the injection site and fatigue, chills and fever, but these were not typically severe, only lasted a day or so. A similar vaccine made by Moderna could also get authorization in a week or so.


2.  Thousands of Presient Trump supporters rallied in the nation's capital today and all the crowds are smaller than last month's DC mega march. The unifying case is the same. They unsubstantiated claim that the presidential election was rigged. NPR's XX has more.
  Speakers and protesters chanted and now familiar list of grievances, disinformation about election fraud, leftist protesters and the pandemic. As the previous rallies, a diverse mix of Trump voters mingled with the extremist fringe, including the Proud Boys, Confederate Groups and QAnon conspiracy theorists. Speakers included Trump's pardon- indict national security adviser Michael Flynn. The crowd cheered as Trump briefly flew overhead on the marine 1 helicopter on his way to another event. Similar rallies are taking place at state capitals across the country.


3.  South Korea says new coronavirus cases jump to an all time high today after initial success in fighting the pandemic. But as NPR's XX reports infections and deaths there remain low by international standards.
  New cases jumped to 950, surpassing the first week of infections in late February. President Moon Jae-in apologized for having taken measures such as recucing public transportation that inconvenienced citizens without bringing the virus under control. The government is dispatching hundreds of military police and government personnel to ramp up testing and contact tracing. shipping containers converted to house Covid patients have been installed outside seoul hospitals which are running out of ICU banks. The government says social distancing measures will be raised to the gighest level, banning groups of moe than 10 people if the virus' spread is not checked soon.
  In the US there are more than 16 million confirmed cases of coronavirus according to hohns Hopkins University.


4.  Country music star Charley Pride has died from complications of Covid-19.
  Pride was 1 of the first black men to break into the genre. From member stations WPLN in Nashville, XX has more.
  Charley Pride was born in 1934, the son of a Mississippi sharecropper佃农. He thought baseball would be his ticket to start on and played in the negro leagues in the fifties. But it was his voice that took him to Nashville. He had his first county music hit song in 1967 with "Just Between You and Me".
  "So I feel so blue, sometimes I want to die........"
  Pride was go on to write more than 50 top 10 country hits. He was the first black man to cohost the country music association awards in 1975. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. His last performance was a month ago at the XXX awards in Nashville where he received a life time achievement toward. Pride was 86.


  5.  In Barcelona, 500 music fans desperate for a concert without social distancing for taking part in a test of the effectiveness of same day coronavirus testing. Volunteers have to pass an antigen抗体 test before entering the concert and face masks are a must inside the show. The 500 concert goers and another 500 people in a control group will all undergo PCR聚合酶链式反应 tests for both before the concert and again, 8 days later to determine if the same day test can help prevent an outbreak at a large event.
