France has confirmed it will start letting traffic from Britain back in within hours, provided drivers produce a negative coronavirus test certificate issued within the previous 72 hours. The new conditions will apply to EU citizens and EU residents, freight drivers, fishing boat crews and others.

Britain and the EU are continuing efforts to agree a post-Brexit trade deal. Fisheries and fair competition remain key issues. The EU's lead negotiator says talks are at a crucial stage.

Israel appears to be heading towards a fourth election in two years. The coalition government hasn't yet been able to find a way to pass a state budget. Without one, Parliament will be automatically dissolved.

President-elect Joe Biden has outlined plans to overhaul the government's coronavirus response. Mr. Biden said his administration would reorganize the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines, adding that he would ask Congress to pass another relief bill.

Anti-government protesters in Armenia have kept up the pressure on the Prime Minister to resign by holding a rally in Yerevan. They are angry with * over a deal with Azerbaijan to end conflict in *.

And the U.S. Justice Department has launched a lawsuit against the retail giant Walmart over the opioid crisis. The government alleges the firm made the crisis worse by unlawfully distributing controlled substances to its in-store pharmacies.
