Covid-19 vaccine makers are wrapping up to deliver hundreds of millions of doses for Americans by this summer. The members of congress asked vaccine makers today how sure they are about hitting those targets, more from NPR’s Cindy.

Law makers questioned pharmaceutical executives Tuesday about making covid-19 vaccines more widely available. Colorado’s Diana DeGette chairs a House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, she asked Pfizer why it hadn’t delivered the 30-40 million doses it originally promised by the end of December, instead the company only hit the 40 million mark last week. Here’s Pfizer’s Chief Business Officer John Young.
“We did initially experience some problems with the initial run-public of our vaccine, and I think in common with other panels this year, we’ve been in the process of developing a manufacturing process for a vaccine product that we’ve never made before.”
He says the company is on track to deliver 300 million doses by the end of July. NPR news.

The Biden administration says it is planning to send millions of mask to Americans around the country soon, the plan had been considered but was later dropped by the Trump administration, during a meeting with black essential workers today Biden did not provide any details about the plan including the cost, timing or type of mask that would be sent out, Biden also repeated his push for additional stimulus check as part of a broader corona virus relief bill.

“We are gonna make sure you get the extra 1400 dollars check during the pandemic, that both parties had said they support it, even the past President said he strongly supported it, it is gonna get done now.”

Biden discussed the plan during a round table discussion today with essential workers including a firefighter from Saint Louis, a pharmacist from Chicago, a child care worker from Columbia, and a grocery store manager from Cedar Rapids Iowa.

Golfer Tiger Woods suffered multiple leg injuries in a single car roll-over crash this morning in southern California,15 time major championship winner has been recovering most recent back surgery, more from NPR’s Tom Goldman.

According to Tiger Woods’long time agent Mark Steinberg, Woods was in surgery after suffering multiple leg injuries in the accident, “we thank you for your privacy and support”, Steinberg said in a statement to Golf Digest. According to the Los Angeles county sheriff’s department, the single vehicle roll-over collision happened early this morning, after exploding on the professional golf world in 1997 with a dominating win at the Masters, Woods quickly became a global sports icon. He has also weathered scandal and numerous medical procedures for golf related injuries. He recently had his fifth back surgery and has been rehabbing in hopes of playing this year’s Masters in April. Tom Goldman NPR news.

A mixed close on Wall Street today, the Dow was up 15 points to 31,537, the NASDAQ down 67 points, the S&P 500 closed up 4 points.

Britain now says it hopes to use its presidency of the group of 7 economic powers to come up with some kind of vaccine passport system that might allow world travel to resume. The government says the proposal would essentially allow those who have been vaccinated against the virus to travel more freely internationally and would be working with the world health organization.

Britain Prince Philippe is doing better after a week in the hospital that’s according to his youngest son. NPR’s Frank Langfitt has more from London.

Buckingham palace said the Prince who’s married to Queen Elizabeth and is 99 years old has been treated for an infection at a London hospital. The palace says he is comfortable, responding to treatment but not expected to leave the hospital for several days. His youngest son Prince Edward said the royal families are keeping their fingers crossed. Prince Philippe’s main job had been to assist the Queen in royal duties, since 1952, he’s completed more than 22,000 royal engagements on his own. One of his most successful charities is the Duke Edinburgh Award, the self improvement program for young people that focus on volunteers and outdoor adventures. Prince Philippe retired from public life in 2017. Frank Langfitt NPR news London.

It’s not just home prices that are rising these days, it’s also costing new motor buyers either a new or used vehicle, prices for new or used cars and trucks have far outpaced overall consumer inflation over the past year, leaving many would-be buyers priced out of the market. Price of an average new car is up 6% to a record 40,278 dollars, the average price of a used vehicle has surged nearly 14% to more than 23,000 dollars. Car prices have risen sharply during the pandemic with more people driving.
