HomeworkLive from NPR news. I'm Jack Speer. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Brier is expected to announce his retiring after serving more than a quarter-century on the nation's highest court. Marked npr's New Todemburg the Rio. A moderate liberal, often wrote important decisions. His monuments were often not the decisions that he wrote, but the decisions he influenced through his ability to forge compromise behind the scenes. As he put it in an interview with NPR, these were skills he learned when he served as Chief Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, then chaired by Senator Edward Kennedy. You tell us, don't worry so much about credit. Credit is something where, if you succeed, there will be plenty of credit to go around, and if you fail, who wants the credit? Nina Totenberg NPR News Washington, texas man has been arrested in charge for allegedly selling a gun to the British man who held four people hostage at a Texas synagogue this month. Npr's Ryan Lucas has that story. The Justice Department says 32-year-old Henry Williams has been charged with being a felon in possession of a gun. Court papers say Williams was previously convicted of aggravated assault, among other things, that her law makes it illegal for a convicted balance to possess a firearm. According to court documents, Williams sold a pistol on January 13 to Malik Akron, a British citizen, who, just two days later held four people hostage at a synagogue near Fort Worth, Texas. The Justice Department says phone record showed several calls between Williams and Akram. And Williams allegedly told FBI agents that he sold off the handgun at an intersection in South Dallas. The ten-hour standoff at the synagogue ended with the hostages escaping, in law enforcement, shooting and killing Akram. Ryan Lucas NPR News, Washington The power of the mederna vaccine to protect people against the omicron bearing of the Coronavirus, made fate after six months. That's according to new research published by the New England Journal of Medicine. More from NPR's Rob Stein. Researchers studied blood samples from people who had received two doses of the mederna vaccine, plus a booster shot. The researchers found that the levels of antibodies that can neutralize the omicron variant fell by about sixfold six months after getting the booster. That raises questions about how long protection against overrun may last, but the researchers cautioned that the study was very small, and other parts of the immune system may still provide powerful protection against omicron so it's too soon to conclude whether another booster might be needed. Rob Stein NPR News Federal Reserve is signaling and plans to begin raising its benchmark interest rate soon, though. To briefing this afternoon, to the conclusion of the Central Banks two-day meeting in Washington, the German Drone pal gave no specifics, while saying that is yet to make a decision about the trajectory of coming great hikes. Many analysts say that could happen as soon as March. A mixed reaction on Wall Street. The Dow dropped 129 points the day the NASDAQ was up two points. SNP 500 fell six points. This is NPR in an indication of just how important technology has become to the automotive industry, everything from software and computers to mechanical and electrical engineering. Giant General Motors now says it hopes to add 8000 more technical workers this year. Jim says it's expanding its teams that develop vehicle software, while engineering hydrogen fuel cells for non-onmotive uses. New hires would not necessarily have to work in Detroit since GM has a policy that allows for flexibility when the work permits. Criminal prices hit another seven-year high and another psychological milestone, as they rose to touch 90 a barrel. Npr's Milo Domnosky reports it comes as supply shortfalls that need geopolitical uncertainty. Oil prices are largely a function of supply and demand, and demand has been strong, despite the owner's probation. While supply has been tight, many OPEC producers have struggled to meet their production targets, and US producers have focused on making profits rather than drilling more wells. But oil prices also reflect expectations for the future, and right now, there's a lot of concern about what the near future looks like, as tensions between Russia and Ukraine mount Russia is a major exporter of oil and natural gas. High oil prices drive up gasoline prices and fuel broader inflation. Communal Domenowski NPR News. Retail giant Walmart is continuing it separates make inroads into the financial sector.
