The European Union has told Russia it will not be blackmailed over gas supplies. The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU had other options to make up for the southern halt to Moscow's delivery of gas to Poland and Bulgaria.
The British foreign secretary has said Russian forces must be pushed out of the whole of Ukraine, in the clearest indication yet of the UK's aim for the conflict.
In a speech in London, Liz Truss described the victory for Ukraine as a strategic comparative for the west, arguing that it must use its economic strength to deter further Russian aggression.
A Ukrainian marine's commander under siege inside a steelworks in the port city of Mariupol has made another impression appeal for rescue. Serhiy Volyna says about 600 Ukrainian troops are badly injured, and hundreds of civilians remain trapped in the works.
Iraqi ministry of water resources says its water reserves are 50% lower than last year. It added that the Tigris and Euphrates river which provide Iraq with most of its surface water will dry out within 20 years if nothing is done. Droughts are becoming increasingly common in Iraq.
The airplane manufacturer Boeing says it expects to make loss of more than one billion dollars on a deal it made with the former U.S. President Donald Trump to deliver two new Presidential Air Force One planes to the White House. The 2016 deal made Boeing not taxpayers, responsible for extra costs.
A new study has found 1/5 of the world reptile species are at risk of extinction, with more than half of all turtles and crocodiles under threat. Over exploitation and persecution are said to be the main risks to the animal's survival.
