NPR XXX reports Making vaccines widely available wasn't enough to get millions of americans vaccinated. but the pace of vaccination has hit a low plateau. And white house is looking for new ways to breakthrough. President Biden was asked about one idea.

If unvaccinated, they would have to follow stringent protocols including wearing a mask even in areas of low covid transmission, and under going regular testing.


2. XXX NPR news. America swimming star Katie Ledecky has won her first golden medal of Tokyo summer games. NPR's Tom XXX reports.
Katie Ledecky won one of her first time olympic events in women's 1500 meters freestyle. It's more than 15 minutes long marathon of race. She'd been hoping to win double goal, but earlier in the day, she finished fifth in the 200 meter freestyle. The first time she hasn't won one medal in Olympic game stretching back to 2012. The 200 was her second defeat to an Australia rising star Ariarne Titmus. but Katie said after the 200, her coach great --- helped get her mind right.  It is sort made kind of let it sit for second to be angry about it if you want.

A statement from USA gymnastics says the Biles will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether she'll participate in next weeks individual events.


4. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says although the US is withdrawing troops from Afghanistan it remains committed to that country. Even as we withdraw
our forces from Afghanistan, and they don't __withdraw their forces. we remain great much engaged in Afghanistan. Ah, we're we have not only strong embassy there, but also important program that continue  to support Afghanistan.

5.The world heath organization warns E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products
are threatening progress in the fight against the global tobacco epidemic.
XXX reports from Geneva. WTO accuses the tobacco industry of aggressively marketing these product to children and adolescents. Tobacco control chief XXX says the industry is using thousands of appealing flavored e-cigarettes
to get young people hot. Children who start to use e-cigarettes are
twice likely-- became regular tobacco users. That's dangerous. If say this, they really --- tobacco is so exciting.
WTO finds limited evidence to see cigarettes are effective in winning people off tobacco. It recommends to use of conventional methods like nicotine patches to quit smoking. From NPR xxx in Geneva.

Texas state legislator Jake Ellzey won, beating Wright's widow Susan Wright who she had been endorsed by former President Trump. Ellzey will represent the sixth congressional district

7. There was a chemical leak at a plant in the port Texas last night.
Officials say two people died, and at least 7 other were injured.
Dozens more are being monitored for symptoms such as breath difficulties and skin burns.
