01. Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack spear. Vaccine makers Pfizer and Biontech say the results of their pediatric COVID-19 vaccine trial provide a strong foundation for seeking authorization for five to 11 year olds. NPR’s XXX reports the company will submit a stating to the FDA for review. Vaccine makers say at 1/3 the adult dose the vaccine triggered a strong immune response in children and was well tolerated with similar side effects to those seen in teenagers and young adults, such as a sore arm or muscle aches. David Kimberlin is a pediatric infectious disease doctor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the liaison from the American Academy of Pediatrics to the CDC Advisory Committee. “Parents can be really confident if the authorization is made, that it was done right, that it was based on the data, that it was based on science.” The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is set to meet on Wednesday. Allison Aubrey, NPR News, Washington.

02. Another grim milestone for the Coronavirus pandemic. According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus dashboard, the US death toll from COVID-19 has now reached 675,000 as many people as are reported to have died in the US during the so called Spanish flu pandemic 1918 through 1919, Like that scourge more than a century ago scientists say the Coronavirus that is to blame may never entirely disappear. Scientists say they are hopeful COVID-19 will become a milder seasonal bug as human immunity strengthens.

03. Even Secretary General is warning against the new Cold War, urging US and China to repair what he calls their completely dysfunctional relationship. Comments come as President Biden prepares to address the United Nations. More from NPR’s Michele Kelemen. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres tells the Associated Press that the US and China should be cooperating to combat climate change. Instead, he says, today we have only confrontation. White House press secretary Jen Psaki says that's not the goal of the President's foreign policy, which Biden plans to lay out in his speech to the United Nations. “And he will make absolutely clear that he is not looking to pursue a new Cold War with any country in the world.” Another White House official says Biden will speak about his diplomatic efforts on climate change, COVID-19, trade, counterterrorism and “the vigorous competition with great powers.” Michele Kelemen NPR news the State Department.

04. ???Interest rates setting Federal Reserve this week could send its clearest signal to date on whether it will start reining in its ultra low interest rate policies later this year. Possibly the first step toward on ??? what has been unprecedented support for the economy during the Coronavirus pandemic and economists expect the Fed to formally announce a pullback sometime in November.
Stocks took a major hit today following overseas shares sharply lower amid concerns about a big Chinese real estate developer. The Dow fell 614 points. This is NPR.

05. Georgia's governor has invoked a non-existent vaccine mandate, there's recent arguments against mandates for COVID-19 vaccinations. George Blankenship of Georgia public broadcasting has more. Twice this month Republican Governor Brian Kemp ???decided as supposed failed the AIDS Vaccine mandate in support of his stance against mandatory COVID vaccination. Once on Fox Business News, “Just like the AIDS vaccine, mandate that didn't work.” and the second time on the conservative podcast. Dr. Melanie Thompson is a Georgia based HIV AIDS physician and researcher, she says there's an obvious problem with this logic. “We simply do not have an AIDS vaccine, stating that we do prevent people from knowing we can prevent HIV infections even without a vaccine.” a spokesperson says can actually make vaccine for human papillomavirus or HPV. It has never been mandatory in Georgia. For NPR news I'm Grant Blankenship in Macon, Georgia,

Hollywood Studios, Jurassic Park, Kung Fu Panda and Harry Potter film franchises plus minions are featured at the park on the eastern outskirts of Beijing. The opening in the Chinese capital went ahead despite Coronavirus outbreaks in China's southeast that prompted the government to tighten travel controls in some areas. Universal Studios Beijing is the Chinese capital's first foreign themed amusement park. It's the fifth worldwide, Universal Studios.
