The widow of Haiti's assassinated President Jovenel Moïse has posted an audio message on Twitter, saying that he was killed by mercenaries because of his determination to re-write the constitution and to improve the life of ordinary people. Martine Moïse said the couple were taken by surprise when armed gunmen entered into the President's palace in the early hours of Wednesday and shot them several times. She said the President Moïse didn't have the opportunity to utter a word before being murdered.

For the first time in two weeks, the UN World Food Program is moving aid into the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, where a conflict has left millions in need of assistance.  The covey of 50 lorries had found an alternation route, after a bridge was destroyed.

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for calm following violent protests linked to the imprisonment of the former President Jacob Zuma. 25 lorries were torched, and shops were looted overnight in KwaZulu-Natal province. Major roads were blocked.
