The form Secretary General of United Nation says there has been what he calls growth and systematic human right abuses in western Kenya. Kofi Annan today visited the Rift Valley town of Molow where tens of thousands of people have been displaced by recent fighting part of the post election violence that has now taken near 700 lives across Kenya. Meanwhile the International Committee of Red Cross has sent medical supplies to Kenya’s Nakuru provincial hospital as the ethnic fighting escalates. Lisa Schlein has more from Geneva.

The recent flare up of ethnic tension and fighting in Nakuru, the provincial capital of Rift Valley has reported left at least 16 people dead. Many people have been wounded in the main laid and the International Committee of Red Cross says the increasing number of casualties is arising at the hospital. ICRC spokesman Mahased Eyezard says his agency has sent enough medical and surgical supplies to Nakuru provincial hospital to enable the staff to cope with the growing need. He says the Red Cross has not sent any doctor to Nakuru because violence only recently erupted there about 1/4 of million people have been displaced in Kenya following disputed election results at the end of December. The first wave of ethnic violence erupted in Nowdired and in the slums of the capital Nairobi. The situation has calmed down in those areas and has now moved to Nakuru. Thousands of Palestinians continue to pour into Egypt from Gaza Strip since militants destroyed a border barricade 3 days ago. And today for the first time hundreds of vehicles made the crossing after a group of militants used bulldozers to open a new section of the barricade. Palestinians have been streaming into Egypt to buy goods made scarce by a blockade that Israel imposed on the Gaza Strip last week in response to Palestinian’s rocket attacks on Southern Israel.

Coalition forces in Iraq have reported captured a key leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq for the northern city of Ticrit. A US military statesman says that the detainee is believed to be associated with many senior Al Qaeda leaders in Iraq. The statesman also says the coalition forces kill three militants in the operation targeting the Al Qaeda net works in the Tigris Valley.

Yesterday Iraq’s Prime Minister announced a major new offense against Al Qaeda militants in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. VOA’s Deborah Block has more from Bagdad. Prime Minister Maliki said Friday his government is sending troops to * to fight Al Qaeda in Iraq insurgents. He says the troops are moving to Mosul and the fight there would be decisive in the help of Mosul’s population. During the address in the Shiite holy city of Kabala, south of Bagdad, he warns that Iraqi army is now a power for force. He says a operation center has now been established in Neliva province for a finally war against Al Qaeda and the remnants of the former Saddam Hussein regime. The Prime Minister did not indicate that how many troops have been sent or provide further details. The announcement came after the warning by the U.S. military that Mosul is the last major city of Al Qaeda in Iraq maintains strong presence. It has largely been driven from Bagdad and other major population center. Three weeks ago U.S. and Iraqi forces launched a new assault against Al Qaeda operatives in Deala province north of the capital. Deborah Block, VOA news, Bagdad.

An American Aid worker and her driver have been killed kidnapped by gunmen in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. The woman was wearing a * and was on her way to work. According to the provincial governor she works for the nongovernmental organization that focuses on agriculture and development. No group has yet claimed responsibility. Pakistani authority has raised the state of alertness around their nuclear facilities after a surge of militants’ attacks. However, the head of the agencies has handled Pakistan nuclear arsenal says there is no conceivable scenario in which Pakistan would fall to Al Qaeda or Taliban type of extremists.

Another shipment of Russian nuclear fuel has arrived in Iran for that countries’ first atomic power plant. Iran’s official news agency says the bushel planting in southern Iran has now received 77 tons of uranium fuel rugs of initial supply of 82 tons of fuel they say they will need.
