President Bush is preparing to deliver his final state of the Union Address. The annual speech before the US congress set outlines of president's policy agenda for the coming year. White House aid say the president will focus on discussing plans to keep the US economy from slipping into a recession. VOA White House correspondent Pouler Wolfson previews the president address. White House officials say the president will not spend much time looking back, instead they say he will look to the future in his final state of the Union address. White House spokeswoman Danar Prinal says he will talk about areas where he feels taking work in concert with the democratic majority in congress. The president will call on congress to act quickly to pass an economic stimulous package along the lines of the agreement. US stocks open slightly lower today resisting the stip loss as recorded earlier in Asia. major stock indexes in New York fell last one percent only after the opening bell. In Asia earlier markets fell between 4 and 7 percent on fears at a recession in the United States will weaken the demand for Asisan exports. The major European indexes in London, Paris and Frankverd were also down in Monday's trading.
Egyption border guards have begun a restricting traffic across the border from the Gaza strip. This comes 5 days after parts for border security fense were blown up. allowing Palestinians to pour into Egypt to buy food and supplies. VOA correspondent Charles Macdonald has more details from the border town of Brafa. After five days of virtually unrestricted traffic. Egyptian border guards begun exerting some control over the vehicles crossing the border. But Padestrians continued to pass through freely. The rain capture crowd thinner than on previous days and turn the town into a muddy mess. But there were still thousands of people jingerly navegating around badly flooded streets and slog into uncle-D mud to cross the border in both directions. Pakistan's interior ministry says gunmen has released all the children briefly held hositage in a high school in northwest frontier province. A ministry spokesman says a gunman surranded the local tribal council long with a weapons and released the children. The ministry said up to 250 students have been held. Meanwhile Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf and British prime minister Gorden Brown have opened talks in London as opponents of the Pakistani leader demonstrate nearby. The talks at ten Downing street are expected to focused on the struggle against terrorism as well as efforts to garranttee the next month parliamentary elections in Pakistan will be free and fair.
