An A government provincial governer says 80 people have been killed and many others wounded in a suicide bomb attack in a southern city of Kandahar.. Governer Asadullah says the bomb set off the explosive today at a dogfighting competition attended by hundreds of people .He blamed the attack on the Taliban but so far no one has claimed responsibity.


Kosovo's parliament has approved the declaration of independence from Serbia.. The extrordinary session openned today with region’s Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci ,calling Kosovo from this day forward “proud independent and free”. Tens of thousands of jubilant ethnic Albanians packed streets outside the parliament buliding as Mr. Thaci read the declaration to lawmakers. Earlier president Bush said he will work with allies to ensure there is no violence surounding Kosovo's declaration of independence. VOA white house correspondent Scott Stearns reports.


President Bush says the United States will continue to work with its allies to do the very best it can to make sure there is no violence surrounding Kosovo's decision. At a news conference in Tanzania Mr Bush was asked if he supports independece for Kosovo.. The President did not answer the question directly ,saying instead that the future of the province is central to regional security. Our position is that its status must be resolved in order for the Balkans to be stable . Serbia opposed the independence for predominantly ethnic Albanian province and says it will use every polical measures possible to prevent recognition of Kosovo's independece. Serbia says it will protect athenic minority who /remain Kosovo.. President Bush says he’s hopeful that Kosovo's decision will not lead to further violence. President Bush has met with Tanzania's president in Dar es Salaam and signed the nearly 7 hundreds million grant that stimulate economic growth in the east Africa nations. Mr Bush spoke about the move at a news conference .I was proud to sign along with president A, largest Millennium challenge account in the history of the United States here in Tanzania. It provides nearly 7 hundreds million dollars over five years to improve Tanzania's transportaion network, secure reliable supply of emergy and expend access to clean and safe water. My hope is that such an initiative will be part of an effort to transform parts of this country to become more hopeful place ,Mr president .


Mr Bush also urged the US congress to renew his global AIDS program, President wants to double the size of the progran from the 15 billion dollars already spent to 30 million over next 5 years.

In kenya, government and oppostition negotiatiors are preparing to resume the reconciliation talks after making progress last week on a political solution to kenya crisis. Correspondent Scott Bobb reports from Nairobi.

Government and opposition negotiators prepared to resume 4th week of talks after a 3-day break consultation with their leaders. Chief mediator Kofi Annan said the two sides have made considerable progress toward a political settlement on the December elections.


One thousand people were killed and several hundred were displace in violence that erupted after opposition said the vote was rigged. US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice was expected Monday in Kenya Capital to meet with president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga . A senior administration official said the main purpoes of Rice’s mission was to underscore that the Kenya government does not have the unqualified support of the US government unless it compromises in the talks. Government negotiators reportedly have resisted a proposed coalition government . The oppostition which won nearly one half of seats in parliament has demanded a sizable of number of ministerial posts under such an arrangement . Scott Bobb VOA news Nairobi.



Pakistani voters are preparing for the Monday’s long-awaited parliamentary elections amid concerns of more violence following a deadly bomb blast . The suicide attack at an opposition political rally later Saturday near the border with Afghanistan killed at least 47 people and left many others wounded.

Iraqi officials say a woman suicide bomber has blown herself up in a central Baghdad store , killing at least 3 people . The US military however says only the bombers was killed in today’s blast while two people were wounded. Military says Iraqi soldiers fired at the woman when they saw he wearing something bulky and holding wires in her hand.
