Vote counting has begun in Pakistan when a general election was held today following months of political violence. Partial early results could be available later today , official returns are not expected until Wednesday . Opposition parties are predicting strong gains in the balloting. VOA Barry Newhouse reports from the capital I.


Local media reported the morning turnout was late in Pakistany cities but picked up in the afternoon. After casting his votes in the Rawalpindi, President Pervez Musharraf told state television that he wants all parties to end the confrontational politics that have gripped the country in recent months. Mr Musharraf said he is ready to work with whatever parties win the election and whoever becomes the country’s new prime minister. The president has said he believed that lawmakes allied with his PML/Q party will win a majority of seats despte recent surveys that indicate A opposition have a strongest support. Voters are choosing the law for seats in Pak national assembly as well as 4 provincial assemblies . Election officials have denied there is a plan to rig the vote but simmering politically motivated violence in recent months has raised the concern about how opposition parties will respond if they believe that the election was rigged. A suicide car bomb has killed at least 37 people and wounded more 30 in southern Afghanistan , the second such deadly attack in 24 hours, Interior ministry officials say today’s attack targeted a Canadian military convoy in the town of Spin Boldak, in the southern province of Kandahar. Officials say those killed in blast were civilians at least 2 Canadian soliders were wounded. The Taliban has claimed the responsibility for today’s bombing . The blast came one day after the Taliban deadliest suicide attack since Taliban was ousted in 2001, at least 100 people were killed Sunday when a bomber blown up herself in a crowded of people watching dogfitght competition outside Kandahar city.


President Bush has reaffirmed his support for Kosovo’s independence. The President told a US television interview and his words “ the C are now independent” , but he stop short of: vt.未达到,缺乏,不采取行动。 the formally recognizing Kosovos statehood , saying the united states will guided by a UN’ blue print for the territory . Mr Bush spoke on a trip to the Africa today as deeply divided European Union foreigner ministers met in brussels to discuss the Kosovo's declaration of independence , all 27 EU member countries have endorsed the dispatching a police and an administration mission to Kosovo to bolster its stability.

US secretary of state ondoleezza Rice is in Keny to meet with the various parties in the country reconcilation talks. The US official’s one-day visit is seem as raising the international pressure for a political settlement for the disputed of Kenya’s elections. VOA's Scott Bob reports from Nairobi.

US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice arrived in the kenya’s capital and immidately met with the chief mediator in the crisis talks , former UN secretary general Kofi Anna. After the meeting , Rice said the December election did not produce an outcome that would lead to the governence of Kenya, so that outcome now has to be produced by negotiation and good will .There needs to be a governance arragement that would allowe real power sharing that allow a coalition ,indeed a grand coalitions,so that Kenya can be governed. Rice's one day visit also included separate meetings with president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga. The two sides have agreed on the need for political solution to the Kenya crisis. But the government negotiator have rejected the power sharing which the opposition demands. Rice was sent to the kenya by President Bush who also said that US government wants to see a power sharing agreement. Kenya's Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula reacted angry to the remark saying any solution must be a Kenya one. Scott Bob VOA news Nairobi.


President Bush traveled to the Tanzania's rural north today to promote the fight against mosquito-born. Mr Bush annouced the plan in 2005 to reduce malaria death by 50% and 15 African Sub-Saharan African countries, the worst affected region in the world.


The top US negotiator on North Korea’s unclear weapons program have arrived in china. On the trip that focus on helping restart stalled disarmament talks. Speaking with reporters today said he has met with the Chinese official and welcome any support and any opportunity to meet North Korea’s representatives in China.
