The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao gave a measured response when asked about Thursday’s apparently successfully US operation. He says China is closely monitoring the effect the US move may have on safety in outer space and the possible harm it may cause to other countries. The Newspaper of China’s Ruling Communist Party—The People’s Daily took a harsh review Thursday at the US action, accusing Washington of hypocrisy in criticizing other countries’ space ambitions. When China tested an anti-satellite missile and destroyed one of its own satellites in deep space a year ago, the Bush administration and other governments condemned the act as dangerous. There are some differences in the 2 situations. Debrief from the destroyed Chinese satellite remain in space, while the US and other governments have said it could have potentially damaged operating satellites. The US satellite that was just destroyed Thursday was already out of control and falling toward earth. The US Defense Department said the satellite had it take full of toxic fuel called hydrogen which could have harmed humans if it bombs to earth intact. Stephanie /, VOA News, Beijing.
