关于compound

今天CNN:

Doctors say Senator Edward Kennedy did not suffer a stroke and it's not in immediately danger after having what they described as a seizure. The veteran Democrat was airlifted to a Boston hospital from an emergency room near his family compound in Cape Cod Massachusetts yesterday. Doctors say he’s resting comfortably and scheduled to undergo more tests.

原帖由 elton00758 于 2008-5-19 17:58 发表 compound: a fenced or walled-in area containing a group of buildings and especially residences乔家大院就是用compound这个词的,还有庄园也可以用

20080519NPRNEWS:

Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent task forces of more than 25, 000 federal police and troops to hot spots to bolster beleaguered law enforcement.

20080521NPRNEWS:

The legislation would also call for creation of a Justice Department task force to aggressively investigate gasoline price gouging and manipulation of the energy markets.

task force n. 1. A temporary grouping of military units or forces under one commander for the performance of a specific operation or assignment. 2.A temporary grouping of individuals and resources for the accomplishment of a specific objective:

There was a bucket of water, and they stick my head into the water and, in the same time, they punched me into my stomach, so I had to inhale all those water. "

看到整理稿,才认识了这个punch:To hit with a sharp blow of the fist.

"The reaction was at first panic and terror, you can just see it on people's faces, looks as absolute terror as they came running out thier houses. And of course, they turned around and looked up the mountain side to see if there is any boulders hurtling down them.

By the way,昨天还有一个地方出了contractor这个字:

Critics say the security contractors fired without provocation. Sources close to the investigation say that the Iraqis brought before the grand jury were witnesses to what happened that day and are giving their version of events.

"We were promised a fiscal conservative. Instead, we got the most fiscally irresponsible administration in history. And now John McCain wants to give us another. "

Tim Russert

A Familiar Face

to Tim Russert

A so familiar face with smiles
a so strong voice in the news
you could not speak and smile again
in Sunday's "meet the press"

Even in your life's last minutes
you were still working in a record room
your several decades' hard works
brought us some many great news
your tough questions
made many world famous leaders to
try hard in order to keep their faces

Oh, Tim Russert, a great newsman
America people will miss you
Oh, Tim Russet, your voice and images
will always be remembered in the bottom
of so many peoples' hearts!

Late Edition

今天的NPRNEWS:

David Paulison, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, just got back from touring the damage in Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin. He told CNN's Late Edition that it's some of the worst flooding he's seen since Katrina, but authorities are working in tandem this time.
