A coalition of British aid and human rights groups say the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is worst since Israel first occupied the territory more than 40 years ago.In a report today,the aid British-based groups called for end to Israeli blockade on Gaza,saying the measures taken are illegal under international humanitarian law.The aid groups say the blockade has dismantled the economy and impoverished the population.


Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki is urging lawmakers to approve a power sharing deal intended to end the country's deadly post-election crisis.Addressing legislators before the opening of Parliament today, Mr.Kibaki called on them to support the bill that would then sign the power sharing deal into law.


A Sri Lankan Tamil lawmaker and his driver were killed today in a roadside bomb attack in northern Sri Lanka.Kiddinan Sivanesan was a member of the Tamil Eelam National Alliance as a party ally with the rebel Tamil Tigers.Meanwhile an international panel monitoring human rights in Sri Lanka has announced its resigning,saying the government failed to support the process.The international independent group of Eminent Persons said today that the Sri Lankan government failed to meet the basic minimum standards for taking investigations and inquires.Meanwhile Human Rights Watch said in a new report that the Sri Lankan government is responsible for wide-spread reductions and disappearances in the national crisis. / researched the Human Rights Watch report and disputes that position ."In many cases we have proved that before people diasspeared before they won mercy they were not seen in custody of army or navy officers or they were arrested by the police and since then all trait of them have been lost."The government says many of the people listed as missing went away without informing their family and as mentioned / to research that Human Rights report disputes the government's claims.


Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is threatening to end his country's trade ties with Colombia as response to last week's Colombian military raid on the leftest rebel's outpost in Ecuador.Mr.Chavez made the threat in Caracas during a joint news conference with Ecuador's President Rafael Correa.Mr.Chavez sent thousands of Venezuelan troops to Colombia's border but says he is not seeking an armed conflict.However US Defence Secretary Robert Gates says he does not expect fighting to break out between Colombia and Venezuela and that if it does,he believes Colombia's military can successfully defend its country.VOA's Al Pesion reports."Secretary Gate was asked about the increased tension on the Colombia-Venzuela border during a news conference on Wednesday."It's relatively little likely for the military conflict between them.And my further impression is that the Colombians can take care of themselves."Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced Sunday he was sending thousands of troops to the border area.But earlier Wednesday a senior US defence official said there is not as much to the Venezuelan military buildup as it's being reported. Secretary Gates also expressed his support for the Colombian government and its efforts to deal with the FARC rebels whom he called terrorists.President Chavez of Venezuela has good relations with FARC leaders and previously tried to mediate between them and Colombia's government.A Colombian military strike on an alleged FARC base in Ecuador on Saturday sparked the current tension.Ecuador's government has protested the attack is a violation of its sovereignty but has not taken any military action.Al Pesion,VOA news at the Pentagon."


A small explosive device damaged a military recruiting station in New York city's Time Square earlier today.Police say someone threw the device at the recruiting station several hours before dawn.Police and fire crews cordoned off Time Square and diverted subway trains for several hours.But normal traffic resumed by the start of the morning rush hour and no injuries were reported.This hotel guess said he heard the explosion."looks at the window.I did  see anyone and then see people running and that was a big / smoke.It was very it should be ...."  
Police are investigating report that someone riding a bicycle may have thrown the bomb at the recuiting station.
