The word of the day for Auguest 18th is Canicular, spells C-A-N-I-C-U-L-A-R.
Canicular is an adjective that means of or relateing to the dog days that is a period between early July and early September when the hot  sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere.
Here is the word used in the sentense.
During the canicular heat of August, many of the town's residents venture to the local swimming pool in search of a way of staying cool.
The Latin word "Canicular" , meaning "small dog", is the diminutive  form of "canis" ,  the source of the English word for "Canine". Canicular is also the Latin name for "Sirius", the star that represents  the haunt of Orion in the constalation name for that haunter from  Roman and Greek morphology.
Because the first visible rising of Sirius occurs during the summer, the hot sultry days that occur from early July to early September came to be associated with the "dog's star". The Greeks call this the time of the year " the Hemerie keneydis”, which the Romans translated into Latin as “dias canicularis”,  or as we know them in English "the dog days"
With your word of the day this Tuesday, August 18th, I am PS.
