"Are you happy to go ahead? Now you have any questions ?""No."  Without a hint of nervous, the first person to have experimental Ebola vaccine takes the plunge....is one of the 60 healthy volunteers in Britain to be given the jab as part of the clinical trial. And She is paid just 380 pounds,  not for the risk but for any loss of earnings. The vaccine is declared test in monkey but scientists need to be sure it is safe and effective before using it on the front line of the Ebola epidemic.
"My 15-year-old son,he thought it was Ebola ... asked if I am going to die, where's my willing and how much hw would get.
My 12-year-old daughter was concerned but also say well done, mum for what you're doing.
This is that one step and I am part of that first step. And you get some vaccine. They know thet've got the right vaccine and they can start giving it and can make difference of people's lives.  "
The vaccine is made from a harmless virus common in chimpanzees. It has been be modified to carry a small piece of Ebola DNA. Once in patients, the virus wll make a single Ebora protein. It  will cause the disease but it should be enough to prime the immune to attack Ebora virsus if Ebora is encountered in the future.  The good thing about the vaccine is probably that it does not leave to work in five years or even 5 months .If it has higher.... 3 months,it would be very valuable. But technically it's easer to do and make a vaccine that works for a decade. Volunteers will be given varying amount of the vaccine to find the dose that trigger a good new response without causing serious side effects.
Normallly it will take 18 months or more for a vaccine to go through the clinical trials. But such is the desperate need to protect the health workers who are putting their lives on the line by treating Ebora patients. This is a fast attract....  Even while the clinical trial are on the way, Smith is producing  10,000 doses to be sent up to West Africa as soon as they get the green light. ...the vaccine for local people are epidemic out of control in   ...and... And the doctor who discover the Ebola told Sky News  that thousands of people are still likely to die.
"One of the lessons of the epidemic is that we need to make sure we accelerate the ways we test and evaluate drugs vaccines also.If we have done that at the beginning of the epidemic ,we may probably already have an answer. " ...the patients and ...tracing contact
is currently the only way to beat the virus. The World Health Organization has weicome the3000 military person now being sent to the region to build field hospitals with 1700 beds. It's not enough but it is a start.
