The king preferring his son to be a more conventional emperor surrounded the prince with luxury, to attach him to a worldly life, the streets were cleared of all unpleasant sites, so he was blissfully unaware of the suffering in the world.

I have to say this colorful accounts of Buddha’s early palace life does have more than a ring of fable to it, you fells like kind of textbook, heroic story but it dose also seem to reflect a real existential crisis.
