The head of World Health Organization....says he’s deeply concerned about the rapid rise in number of cases of the coronavirus. He said it was growing exponentially and it has now spread to almost every country and region. Doctor * said the number of deaths worldwide is more than double in the past week.
Many of the deaths have been in the United States where more than 4,000 people have lost their lives, almost half of them in New York State. The U.S. now has more than 200,000 confirmed cases.
Britain has recorded its worst one-day figure for coronavirus related deaths, 563, a rise of nearly 1/3. The government is facing increasing pressure over its handling of the outbreak amid criticism over shortages of protective equipment for health workers.
One of the hardest-hit countries, Italy, has meanwhile registered a relatively low number of new coronavirus cases for the 3rd day in a row.
In a landmark development in the Afghan conflict, officials have confirmed that government and Taliban representatives have had face to face talks. They met on Tuesday to discuss a prisoner swap.
