Following a phone call, the 2 leaders said an agreement was still unfeasible as significant differences remain on critical issues.

Poland’s biggest local media group has been bought by a state-controlled energy firm, raising renewed concerns for press freedom. Polska Press was sold by German publisher. The opposition accused the Polish government of trying to stifle independent media.

Eritrea has released 28 members of the x witnesses of religious group who had served lengthy jail terms. Some have been in prison for more than 25 years. They were jailed for various reasons, among them objecting to compulsory military service.

US State of Georgia has recertified Joe Biden’s win in last month’s presidential election after a 2nd recount of votes. The state official overseeing the process issued a rebuke to Donald Trump, saying disinformation should be condemned and rejected.

Next year’s World Economic Forum Summit has been moved from Davos in Switzerland to Singapore because of fears over the coronavirus. Singapore has welcomed the decision saying it reflected confidence in the city state’s management of Covid-19.

X from the ruling family of the United Arab Emirates has bought a 50% stake in one of Israel’s top football clubs Beitar Jerusalem. Analysts say the deal is particularly surprising because Beitar fans are known for their anti-Arab stance.

A competitive form of break dancing has been confirmed as one of 4 new sports to be included in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The International Olympic Committee said it would make the Games more youthful and more urban. Skateboarding and surfing have already been added to next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
