US envoy Rob Malley is returning home for consultations in Washington. State department spokesperson Ned Price says Malley has been discussing concrete steps that both the US and Iran need to take to get back into compliance with the nuclear deal that the Trump administration left.

“The talks have been business-like and they have been positive, yes, there has been some progress. But there remains a long road ahead, I think it’s fair to say that we have more road ahead of us than we do in the rear view mirror.”

The government’s accountability office is calling on the federal agency responsible for regulating offshore oil and gas operations to do a better job monitoring pipe lines on the sea floor near the Gulf coast. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says it will propose new rules, but as Texas public radio Dominic Anthony Walsh reports agnecies have been saying that for quite some time.

A new report warns of undetected leaks from active pipe lines as well as damage to ocean ecosystems and navigational hazards from abandoned equipment, the report comes 11 years after the Deepwater Horizon disaster that killed 11 workers and spilled more than 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf. Efforts to improve federal regulations of underwater pipelines date back even further than the Deepwater spill. But little progress has been made and more than 650,000gallons leaked from the Gulf of Mexico pipelines in 2017. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says it will release draft pipeline regulations for public comment before the end of 2021, I’m Dominic Anthony Walsh in Saint Antonio.

European unions’ main drug regulator says while it’s found a possible link between the one shot covid-19 vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson, an rare blood clot, it feels the vaccine’s benefits far out weight the risk. For that reason the EU says it will require a warning be added to the label, but will still allow it to be used. Some European countries immediately say they’d be taking the vaccine, Johnson & Johnson also announced big jump in quarterly earning so much of that was due to increased sales of drug and medical devices, not the vaccine itself.
