01. Live from NPR news in Washington, I'm Jack spear. Many Haitian migrants camp in a small Texas border town are being released into the US. NPR’s XXX reports that seems to undercut the Biden administration's public statements and Haitians entering the country illegally we'll face immediate expulsion. The majority of migrants at the camp are being released into the US, where they can seek asylum. That's according to the head of the union that represents Border Patrol agents. At the same time Homeland Security officials say they're trying to deter unauthorized migration by ramping up expulsion flights to Haiti. DHS says it sent more than 1000 migrants back to Haiti so far, but did not say how many have been released into the US. Immigration authorities have expelled 10s of 1000s of adult migrants this year under a public health order put in place by the Trump administration early in the pandemic, but the Biden administration has allowed a majority of migrant families to seek protection in the US, XXXX, NPR news

02. President Biden announced today the US is doubling its purchase of Pfizer's COVID-19 shots to share with the world. Hosting a virtual vaccine summit on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Biden also laid out an ambitious goal of vaccinating upwards of 70% of the world's population within the next year. President encouraged well-off nations do more to get the Coronavirus under control. Global leaders, eight groups and others have been increasingly vocal about the slow pace of vaccinations globally, while the US and other wealthy nations are discussing booster shots.

03. Sequoia national forest officials are assessing the impact of two wildfires threatening some of its iconic trees. Although park officials say the trees are naturally prepared for fire, XXX from member station KVPR reports at least one tree was damaged. The edge of the fire has largely moved around the giant forest and beloved trees there like the General Sherman remains safe. The flames touched a few sequoias like XXXbefore guardsmen. But fire information officer Mark Garrett says those trees won't suffer much damage. even if they did, they're totally prepared for it. You know they've got two plus two to three foot bark at the base and the lowest branches are 100 feet up so it can't, the fire can't get into the canopy. At another fire burning to the south, fire crews are watching for hotspots along the trail of 100 Giants. There, fire ignited the top of a Sequoia, damaging the famed bench tree. 03. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has announced mass will be required inside Mormon temples to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. Church leaders saying today mass will be required temporarily in an effort to keep temples open as it is the latest in a series of statements from LDS church leaders encouraging mask wearing and vaccination efforts against COVID-19. The Mormon Church is headquartered in Utah, where there has been a surge of the virus.
Stock soared higher today. The Dow was up 338 points. You're listening to NPR news in Washington.

04. Former President Donald Trump is suing the New York Times and one of its key sources, his niece, Mary Trump. NPR’s David XXXX explains the lawsuit revolves around the newspapers 2018 reporting on Trump's finances. Trump’s threatened to sue the paper repeatedly but has never done so under his own name until now. An earlier lawsuit filed by his campaign was tossed out of court. In this case, Trump alleges that Mary Trump could not legally give the paper confidential financial records. She had obtained them as part of a settlement of a dispute over the state of her grandfather, Donald's father. The former president's attorneys also alleged that the TIMES’ reporters induced Mary Trump to breach that confidentiality. A judge earlier ruled that the agreement was too vague to prevent Mary Trump from writing about her uncle's finances in her 2020 book. The Times called the lawsuit an attempt to silence independent reporting. A lawyer for Mary Trump says it's frivolous. David XXX NPR news.

05. Former Houston police officer has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges for taking part in the January sixth insurrection at the US Capitol. Houston Chronicle reporting XXXcamp Pham entered the pleas Monday to two federal misdemeanor charges, ???enter restricted building engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct on Capitol grounds. According to court documents FBI agents found photographs and video on XXX’s cell phone that showed he was inside the Capitol Building. Under his plea deal he faces a six month maximum prison term and a possible $5,000 Fine.

06. Crude oil futures prices move higher amid reports of slimmer inventory, something that could push up oil and gas prices. Oil was up two and a half percent today in New York. I'm Jack spear NPR news in Washington.
