U.S.’s prosecutors have struck a deal which is expected to allow the Chief Finance Officer of the Chinese telecoms firm Huawei to return home to China. Meng Wan Zhou has been fighting extradition from Canada to the United States for nearly three years. She pleaded not guilty to fraud during an online appearance before a court in New York.        

The separatist former head of Catalonia’s regional government Carlos * has been released from the detention in Italy while an extradition request from Spain is considered. Mr. *’s lawyer says he is now free to leave the island of Sardinia where he was detained on Thursday but must return for the scheduled extradition hearing.   

Security has been reviewed at a court in the Indian capital Deli after two men posing as lawyers shot dead a leading gang member during a hearing. Police say * was killed by two men from a rival gang.   

The body of the former leader of the Shining Path rebel in Peru, *, has been cremated. His widow had wanted him to be buried, but the authorities feared that his grave would become a rallying point for his remaining supporters.

The son of Brazilian President * and another member of his cabinet have tested positive for Covid-19. It brings to three the number of close aides diagnosed since their trip to the United Nations this week.   

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill to protect abortion services against a growing challenge to them from republican-controlled states. The Women’s Health Protection Act aims to make giving and receiving abortion are right without what it describes as medically unnecessary restrictions.

And government officials in Columbia say they have confiscated a shipment of almost 3,500 shark fins which were being illegally trafficked to Hong Kong.
