Thousands of people in the Sudan's capital Khartoum have held a protest calling on the military to take control of the country. The event was organized by politicians opposed to a transition to civilian rule. In recent weeks, deviations have deepened within the sovereign council running Sudan. It was setup following the overthrowal of Omar al-Bashir two years ago.

Emmanuel Macron has become the first French President to recognize the crimes were committed when French police brutally disbursed Algerian protesters in Paris 60 years ago at cost of dozens of lives. Mr. Macron condemned the police action as inexcusable, but stopped short giving an apology.

Tens of thousands of Italians have demonstrated in Roma to call for a ban on neo-Fascist Forza Nuova party over its involvement in a riot a week ago. Protests carried placards, saying "Fascism Never Again".

Syria has accused Israel of assassinating a prominent figure on the Syrian side of the border in the Golan Heights. Israel hasn't commented on reports of Midhat Saleh's death.  

Members of parliament in the Democratic Republic of Congo are giving their backing to new head of the electoral commission. Thousands of opposition supporters demonstrated in  Kinshasa against the proposed deployment of Denis Kadima. They see him as a close ally of President Felix Tshisekedi.

Emergency service on the border between Brazil and Bolivia have retrieved six bodies from a river where a boat hotel sank during a storm.

Britain's former Health Secretary Matt Hanock had a job offer from the UN withdrawn. Mr. Hanock resigned from UK's government after breaching the coronavirus guidelines . Announced this week, he will be helping African economies recover from pandemic. Questions have been raised about his expertise.
