The UN security council has called for an end to the fight in Ethiopia’s year-long war against Tigrayan insurgents. It urged all parties to refrain from inflammatory hate speech, and incitement to violence, and called for all civilians to be protected.

Costa Rica has become the first country in the world to make the Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for children. It signed a deal with Pfizer to acquire enough doses to start vaccinating all under 12 for March 2022. The health minister said the jab will join the list of basic childhood vaccinations already required by law.

Another associate of Donald Trump has refused to give evidence to the congressional committee investigating the storming of the US Capitol Building in January. Lawyers for Jeffrey Clark, Mr. Trump’s assistant attorney general, claimed that his discussion with the former President were covered by executive privilege.

Forty-five governments are expected to pledge action and investment to protect nature and shift more sustainable ways of farming at the COP26 Climate Summit on Saturday. Four billion dollars will be channeled for research into drought resistant and heat tolerant crops.

A day of global protest demanding climate actions has begun in Australia. Demonstration will be staged in more than 200 cities around the world.

The popular Brazilian singer Marília Mendonça has been killed in a plane crash. She was 26. Four other people also died in the crash. Marília Mendonça was one of the biggest names in the music style called sertanejo.
