Joe Biden has traveled to his presidential retreated Camp David where he meets his national security team over the weekend to discuss US tensions with Russia over Ukraine. He’ll be joined by the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken following his inconclusive talks in Geneva with his Russian counterparts Sergey Lavrov. Tens of thousands of Russian troops remain close to Ukraine’s border.
Chile’s left-wing President-elect Gabriel Boric has named his new cabinet appointing the current head of central bank as Finance Minister. The move has been welcomed by investors who’ve been worried that Mr. Boric’s promises to overhaul Chile’s poor market policies.
The American technology firm Intel says it will spend 20 billion dollars building 2 semiconductor chip factories in the US State of Ohio. There's a global shortage of semiconductors which are used in products from cars to smart phones.
US stock market has suffered the worst week in nearly 2 years, with technology stocks especially hard hit. Friday was the fourth successive day of significant falls.
A court in New York has sentenced a former associate of Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer Rudy Giuliani to a year in prison for violating campaign finance’s law. Igor Fruman is also alleged to have helped Mr. Giuliani to search for damaging information on Joe Biden before he was elected president.
Police in southern Mexico have dispersed a migrant caravan for the first time this year. About 300 people are hoping to walk for weeks to apply for asylum in the US.
And a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and highly influential spiritual leader Thich Nhat Hanh has died in Vietnam at the age of 95. A prolific author and poet as well as a peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh was exiled from Vietnam after opposing the war in the 1960s and also influenced Martin Luther King.
